Progress Report: The Hopfield Tales by Mike Evers #amwriting

A belated Happy New Year from the citadel!

I hope 2013 is going well for you so far. I know that quite a few of us here on Thunder Mountain have come down with the dreaded lurgy and perhaps something called a norovirus. The gnomes have been hit particularly bad, and I must say that there are some very strange noises indeed coming from their quarters.  The gnome keepers are having a frightfully rough time down there.

Anyway, enough of talking about our ailments. I would like to give Mike Evers a chance to give us a progress report on the Hopfield Tales.

Here he is:

Hi folks,

Some people will know that last year I published two novellas with Mythos Press, which is the exciting new fantasy arm of GMTA Publishing. These are The Spirit Archer and Campaign of the Gods. Well, it has long been my intention to make them part of a series which I am calling The Hopfield Tales. Each one is set during a particular time of the year and represent aspects, in some ways, associated with that time of the year e.g. spring and rebirth. Furthermore, each one is comprised of a mixture of urban fantasy and English history.

The third novella, Mark of the Legion, is well under way, and I'm still on target to have it ready in the spring. Whether it's early spring or later in the season is another matter. As well as doing my day job teaching in a college, my son is now an active and fairly demanding toddler and I don't have nearly as much time as I did this juncture last year for getting words down on a regular basis. This is one reason why I am doing novellas at the moment. Goodness knows how long a full length novel would take me right now!

Anyway, we've had medieval soldiers fighting in Normandy tied in with a popular English legend, and Viking berserkers along with Norse gods. You can now expect a good dose of Roman history with the occasional biblical element thrown in. All set in the quiet Yorkshire town of Hopfield, of course. Who knows, perhaps it'll even be packaged as a set of stories in one Kindle-tastic bundle.

You'll just have to wait and see.
